News is we could see another Swedish Idol competing for the Eurovision Crown in 2013, at least that’s the goss currently trending from Malta.
The Maltese obviously believe the home of Ikea and the Daim bar holds the answer to Eurovision success, because according to island-based weblog escflashmalta.com, momentum is gathering for Kevin Borg, the Swedish-based Maltese singer, to represent the island at next year’s Eurofest.
Kevin Borg is no stranger to live music contests; in fact, he’s the first foreign winner of Idol, the massively successful Swedish singing competition.
Throughout the incredibly popular 2008 series Kevin’s strong performances were lapped up by television viewers and he eventually triumphed before a live audience of 16,000 in the Globen Arena, Stockholm, the venue incidentally that hosted the 2000 Eurovision Song Contest Final.
Loreen, the current Eurovision sensation, honed her skills in an earlier series of the same competition, so perhaps it’s possible for lightening to strike twice, Malta will certainly hope so.
Mind you, this talented Maltese exile still has to be persuaded to leave northern climes and sing for his sunny homeland. Watch this space!
