While neighbour Sweden may be hogging the international limelight in terms of musical success, Denmark’s chart is also a rich hotbed of home-produced gems. It’s also packed with upbeat, sunny and positive tracks that are sure to raise your happiness levels and put a wonderful smile on your face.
So let’s kick off this post with a blistering mix of reggae, dancehall, roots, dub and hip hop from Danish reggae duo EaggerStunn. Their 2012 release ‘Kugledans’ featuring Geolo G & Keith is their biggest hit so far, the track comes from their debut album ‘Armageddon’.
‘Kugledans’ is a fierce reggae song with a powerful social message; interestingly the video was shot in one complete take.
Paw & Lina aka Danish dance/pop group Infernal are proud of themselves as their single ‘Stolt af mig selv?’ (lit: ‘Proud of myself’) climbs high in the Danish singles chart.
This is feel-good Europop at its best, the type to put a smile on your face and make workday mornings that little bit brighter.
It’s said the Danes are a laid back lot and I can well believe it when I listen to the relaxed and care-free offering from Danish / Italian duo Muri & Mario.
‘Hun tog min guitar’ (lit: ‘She took my guitar’) is a definite contender for Summer sizzler 2012 and what a fantastic video to accompany this super catchy and sugary sweet package of upbeatness.
I’m really taken by this one and so it seems is an ever-increasing world-wide audience. Enjoy!
And sure to lift our happiness levels even higher is Danish saxophonist Michael Rune with his stylish sunny single ‘Væk I Natten’, a cheery and appealing house track with belting vocals from up and coming talent Cecilie Fleur.
Is Denmark the happiest place on earth, Michael Rune’s sax fueled piece of summer sunshine suggests it may well be!
Time to calm things down a bit with Troels Gustavsen and Lasse Dyrholm who perform together as duo Noah.
Although the boys are fairly new on the Danish music scene, their first single ‘Alt er forbi’ has already taken the charts by storm.
‘Alt er forbi’ can be translated as ‘Everything is temporary’, it’s an edgy likeable track which more than shows there is nothing temporary about this talented duo. Their debut album is due for release in the autumn.
French-Danish reggae artist Wafande is getting naughty with his latest release ‘Uartig’ (lit: Naughty).
Samba girls, lollipops and Copenhagen in party mood are all part of Wafande’s bouncing mix of hip hop and reggae.
Medina is the queen of Danish pop and appears to be on the cusp of huge international success having signed for the US label Ultra Records.
Describing herself as ‘a bit of a rock chick’ Medina is already being noticed across Europe and her big new release of 2012 ‘Forever’ is a classy electropop track that’s certain to cement her reputation as Denmark’s most popular musical export.
